The Federal Trade Commission is warning of yet another scam circulating around COVID-19 coronavirus.

The FTC issued a press release on Tuesday (April 7th) explaining the new scam and offering tips on how to keep from falling victim to it.

The scam is pretty simple. Scammers reach out to you pretending to be an employee from the Social Security Administration. They use this ruse as a way to get your social security number and other personal information from you all for an end game of obtaining money. These scammers use COVID-19 as a way to create a sense of urgency and fear.

The FTC has a few tips on how you can avoid falling victim to these types of scams. Do not trust caller ID, as scammers can easily change the caller information, educate yourself on the latest scams so you are prepared if someone tries to target you and know that the Social Security Administration will not call you out of the blue or suspend your account under any circumstance.

Recently, the Better Business Bureau issued a scam alert after receiving reports of scammers targeting the elderly during the COVID-19 pandemic.
