Duluth Huskies to Battle Kalamazoo Thursday at Wade Stadium For League Championship
The Duluth Huskies have had an up and down season, but they got hot just as the playoffs began and that is exactly what every team strives for.
The Huskies (37-33) began their playoffs with best-of-three series against Eau Claire, a team they failed to defeat in 8 games during the regular season. However, what happens in the regular season doesn't matter come playoff time and the Huskies pulled the upset, knocking out Eau Claire.
Their next playoff opponent was the Wilmar Stingers and on Tuesday night, the Huskies kept rolling, defeating Wilmar 5-3, claiming their first Great Plain Division title since 2018 and earning the right to play for the Northwoods League Championship.
According to our media partners at WDIO, the Huskies learned Wednesday night they would face the Kalamazoo Growlers (39-35), who defeated the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters 8-6 in the 10th inning to claim the Great Lakes Division title.
Because the Duluth Huskies have the better winning percentage, they earn the right to host the championship at Wade Stadium.
The one-game Summer Collegiate World Series is set for Thursday, August 18, with the first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m. Gates open at 5:35 p.m.
This will mark their fourth league championship appearance, however Duluth has yet to win it all. Most recently, a loss to the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders in 2018 prevented the Huskies’ first-ever Northwoods League title.
Now it's time for the Northland to pack Wade Stadium Thursday evening and be as loud as possible in support of the Huskies championship quest.
If you'd like to get tickets in person, the ticket office at Wade Stadium opens Thursday at 9:00 a.m. You can also order tickets by phone by calling 218-786-9909.
