Duluth Area Having One Of The Driest Years Ever In 2020

2020 will go down in history for many reasons - and the weather may be one of them, at least in the Duluth area.

It's no secret we are having a very dry year. In mid-June, WDIO Meteorologist Taylor Dayton revealed that the Duluth area was five inches below average in terms of precipitation so far this year, making us "abnormally dry" at that point of the year.

Not only are we well below average in the Duluth area in terms of rainfall but we are so far behind, we are having one of the driest years on record - ever.

The National Weather Service shared this information on their Twitter account Tuesday (June 23rd), writing that Duluth was having the third driest year on record. Only two other times to this date has it been just as dry in the area. Check out their tweet below:

Wow! Like I said, only two other times in the history of this record has it been as dry or more dry than Duluth has been so far this year. Hopefully we get some much needed rain soon!

History was made in Wisconsin this year as well. In June, Tropical Depression Cristobal made its way to the state, making it just the fourth time in history that a tropical system had tracked across the state of Wisconsin.

The Old Farmer's Almanac is not predicting much rain for the rest of the month so hopefully we get some much-needed rain in July.
