I have some good news here and I also have some bad news. If you live in the Northland, or Minnesota in general, you may want to listen up. Just promise you won't be mad at the messenger.

Snow In The Forecast For April

I always look at the Old Farmer's Almanac at the start of every month, just for fun. When I looked at the start of March, the forecast included snow in both March and April. We all know it definitely came true in March!

I checked the website again this morning out of curiosity and because of the fact that it is a new month. Sadly, it looks like we might see more snow, if you believe in the Old Farmer's Almanac and their methodology that is.

So What's The Good News?

Don't fret just yet. The Old Farmer's Almanac isn't forecasting a major winter storm or blizzard. Instead, they are predicting some snow for the first week of the month and then we are in the clear!

Between the first day of April through the third, the Old Farmer's Almanac says we will see cold temperatures and snow showers. At the time of writing, this doesn't seem to be the case, so the Almanac is probably a little off on this one.

Cold temperatures and rain and snow will continue through the sixth of April. After that, it looks like we might be in the clear from winter with sunshine and warmer temperatures mid-month.

What About The Rest Of The Month?

We will see some rainy periods but overall, temperatures will be warmer. We won't be seeing any snow once we get past the first week of April. May looks pretty good, too. Breathe a sigh of relief!

We broke so many different records this year in terms of having a mild winter. It definitely feels even more mild factoring in last year and the fact that Duluth had its snowiest winter ever. Wow.

New to town? Did you come here from a warmer climate? There was recently a Redditor who asked Duluthians what they needed to buy to prepare themselves for their first winter in Duluth. What would you add to the list?

The 15 Least Snowy Winters On Record In Duluth History

Since the National Weather Service began keeping weather records in Duluth in the late 1800s, here are the 15 winters with the lowest snowfall totals on historical record.

It is worth noting that the official records from 1941-today have been recorded at the area now known as the Duluth International Airport (away from the lake, on top of the hill). Before then, various locations closer to Lake Superior had been used for official weather recording data. For anyone that knows anything about how Lake Superior and the hill play a role in temperature and snow, you can see how this makes older records inherently different.

While these records note the "least snowy winters", they actually include all seasonal snowfall from July 1 through June 30 of the following year.
