During the month of October, you may see some Duluth Police officers wearing pink patches on their uniforms, here's why.

For the second year, the Duluth Police Department is participating in the Pink Patch Project, this campaign is a collaboration between various police and public safety agencies to help the fight against all types of cancer.

Duluth Police Chief Mike Ceynowa says, "Everyone knows someone who’s been affected by cancer. DPD wants to continue to support all members of our community and this is one way we’ll continue to unite in finding a cure to this potentially deadly disease."

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and officers will be wearing the pink patches to show support and increase awareness, the patches are also being sold to the public as a fundraiser.

During October the patches can be acquired by the public online for a $10 donation and either shipped out or they can be picked up in person on weekdays at the Duluth Police Department at 2030 North Arlington Ave. 100% of the money raised will go to the American Cancer Society. Last year the fundraiser was able to donate nearly $3000.

Here is a link to the donation page at the American Cancer Society, share a receipt of your at least $10 donation to police@duluthmn.gov and they'll arrange to get a patch to you.

According to the Pink Patch Project website, they've sold over 900,000 patches raising over $1,655,000 with the involvement of over 750 agencies across the world.
