Walmart To Close Twin Ports Stores On Thanksgiving Day 2021

It looks like Walmart is making changes thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic. The chain announced they will be closed on Thanksgiving Day in 2021 as a way to thank their employees.

They first shared the news on Friday (June 4th), writing that this is something they are doing to say thank you to the hard work and dedication their employees have shown throughout the pandemic.

This won't be the first year the chain has made plans to close on the holiday. They did the same thing in 2020 and for the same reason. At the time, they were one of a handful of stores that announced the big change, citing the pandemic.

Other stores that also announced they would be closing on Thanksgiving Day in 2020 included Sam's Club, which is owned by the same company, Best Buy, Target and Kohl's.

As for what the rest of the holiday season looks like, Walmart says they will be open on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving as always. They state that they will reveal more details about the Friday following Thanksgiving, which is a popular shopping date, later in the year.

This news follows that of Target, who announced earlier this year they would be making a habit of closing on Thanksgiving Day. They shared in January they weren't going to be open on Thanksgiving Day in 2021, following the same business model as in 2020.

It will be interesting to see which businesses follow suit in the months to come and if Thanksgiving Day shopping becomes a thing of the past.
