“We know this has been a trying year, and our associates have stepped up. We hope they will enjoy a special Thanksgiving Day at home with their loved ones,” said Furner. “We are certainly thankful to our people for all of their efforts.”

Walmart stores and Sam’s Club locations will operate normal hours on Wednesday, November 25. Information for store and club hours on Friday, November 27, will be shared at a later date.  Sam's Club had been closed previously on the holiday, Walmart will join them in 2020.

Until information is released regarding Friday, November 27, one could easily speculate on how all retailers handle what has traditionally been a crucial shopping day and an official start to the holiday shopping season.

There are plenty of unknowns surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, but I think it's pretty safe to assume that it will still be impacting our lives well past Thanksgiving Day.  People will still want to shop and celebrate the holidays, and businesses must have customers, but I'm guessing it'll look a lot different in many ways when compared to years past.

In related news, Walmart also announced they will pay out another special cash bonus to store, club, distribution center and fulfillment center associates.  The bonus will be $300 for full-time hourly associates and $150 for part-time hourly and temporary associates. Drivers, Managers and Assistant Managers in stores, clubs, DCs, FCs and Health & Wellness will also receive a bonus. It will add up to approximately $428 million.

The company says it  rewarding employees "for their ongoing contributions and dedication to serving customers, members and communities during this unprecedented time."
