For more than two decades, Foster's Sports Bar & Grill on Arrowhead Road in Hermantown has been a favorite in the Duluth area for Friday fish fries, homemade pizzas, trivia nights, strong drinks, pull tabs, and more.

Earlier this year, there were rumblings of an ownership change, and then in late July it became official when longtime owners John and Pete shared the news that Foster's was changing hands after 21 years.

"This milestone would not have been possible without the incredible support of so many special people," they wrote in a heartfelt social media farewell, thanking the customers and staff whom they called "the heart and soul of our success."

In the same breath, they welcomed new owners Angela and Eduardo and asked the community to keep showing up.

The New Owners Of Foster's Sports Bar & Grill

Those new owners are familiar names to Duluth-area food fans. Eduardo Sandoval Luna is behind Oasis Del Norte, the Mexican spot that grew from a beloved food truck into a well-known and loved brick-and-mortar restaurant in Lincoln Park, built on family recipes from Zacatecas, Mexico.

Of course, any time a well-loved place changes hands, the same question hangs in the air: what happens to the stuff we love? Would the fish fry survive? The trivia nights? The regular faces behind the bar? For a couple of weeks, Foster's fans were left to wonder just how much of their favorite hangout would carry forward.

Then, in early August, the new owners provided an answer.

The Future Of Fosters Sports Bar & Grill

On August 5, Angie and Eduardo Sandoval Luna introduced themselves through a Facebook post and offered a simple promise: "New Owners, Same Great Place!"

They said they plan to keep the favorites, the Friday fish fry, homemade pizzas, trivia, and meat raffles, while updating and improving the building over time.

The one delicious twist that I'm excited about is that Oasis Del Norte's Mexican specials will start showing up at Foster's on Tuesdays.

It's the best-case version of a hometown handoff, where a trusted spot stays true to what made it work, with a fresh spark from owners who already know how to win over a Northland crowd.
