UWS Celebrates Lake Superior Day With Scavenger Hunt July 13-19
The University of Wisconsin-Superior is hosting a week long scavenger hunt starting July 13 and going through July 19. It's a family friendly activity that anyone can participate in. There are prizes given away as well for participants who complete the hunt from local businesses such as Earth Rider, Epicurean, Trailfitters, and North Shore SUP.
Here's how it works. Anyone who wants to play can download the scavenger hunt with instructions from the Lake Superior Reserve's Facebook Page. Or they can view posters of the scavenger hunt at the following locations:
- Lake Superior Estuarium, 3 Marina Drive on Barker's Island
- Super One Foods on Oakes Street
- UWS Yellowjacket Union Hall
Participants then submit their completed scavenger hunt at the Lake Superior Estuarium from 2-4pm on Sunday July 19. There will be a prize raffle for those who have completed the hunt. As a bonus, any child 16 or younger can try stand-up paddle boarding courtesy of North Shore SUP on Barker's Island.
Closing the Lake Superior Day Celebration is a live music virtual concert from "One Less Guest" on the Lake Superior Reserve's Facebook page.
This is all a part of Lake Superior Day, which is a celebration started in the early 1990s that highlights how important the lake is to the surrounding environment and economy. It's put on as a coordination by the Lake Superior National Estuarine Research Reserve that is operated by the University of Wisconsin-Madison, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and other partners including the City of Superior, UWS, Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College, The Friends of the Lake Superior Reserve, and North Shore SUP.
