UPDATE: After Being Postponed, Tower Avenue Open this Afternoon at Two with a Press Conference

Crews had been working diligently to have Tower Avenue finished by last Friday.  While dining at a restaurant on Tower I noted that they were working well into the evening hours.  According to Chris Ouellette from the DOT, the construction is completed and after the date of Tower Avenue's opening had been postponed, the day is finally here.

UPDATE:  According to a press release, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WISDOT) Northwest Regional Office in Superior is pleased to announce the majority of the reconstruction of Tower Avenue has come to an end. Yay!

Work on the million dollar project started last April and today the road will open to traffic. While the main roadway is completed, crews will continue to work on other aspects of the project outside the driving lanes.  Expect to see them back on Tower Avenue next year tending to the landscaping and planting other foliage.

 “We are extremely pleased with the finished product and I believe motorists will enjoy driving on the new highway that serves as a gateway to the city of Superior,” said Don Gutkowski, Northwest Region director. “We also appreciate the patience of businesses and motorists during the reconstruction.”

Some of the new features include: new parking, sidewalk, street lighting, a new storm sewer system, raised medians and an overall new roadway configuration.

There will be a news conference with Mayor Bruce Hagen and others beginning at 2 p.m. today at the Intersection of 14th and Tower, on the sidewalk outside the Old Post Office Building. It will be exciting for the Tower Avenue businesses to have front door access again.

Kaye Tenerelli, executive director of the Superior Business Improvement District, thanked downtown businesses for their diligence and patience during construction.
