Traffic Signal Replacement Project on Woodland and Kent Has Begun

A traffic signal replacement project is underway at the intersection of Woodland Avenue, Kent Road and East 8th Street in Duluth.  It's a project that will take just over two months to complete.

According to the City Of Duluth, the existing signal has reached the end of its life expectancy and needs to be replaced.

The project will consist of removing the current signal system and replacing it with a new signal system that will include Accessible Pedestrian Signals (APS) and Emergency Vehicle Preemption (EVP) improvements. The adjacent pedestrian curb ramps will also be updated and will comply with current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance.

Right now, East 8th Street and Kent Road are closed to Woodland Avenue. If you're traveling in the area, you will need use alternate routes to access Woodland Avenue from East 8th and Kent Road.

The left-turn lanes on Woodland Avenue to Kent Road and East 8th Street are also closed. Traffic control will change as different stages of the project are under  construction.

The project is expected to be complete by October 23.  Between now and then, motorists in the area should expect to see and follow construction signage and allow for the extra time taking an alternate route can take.

As with all the other projects across the Northland, there will also be city workers out near traffic so it's important to drive with caution and without any distractions.
