Popular FOX 21 Broadcaster Announces He Is Leaving Duluth
Regarding television news broadcasts, the Duluth area has a nice variety of choices in the morning, the evening, and later at night. Everyone has their favorite and as you welcome broadcast teams into your home each day, you get to know them pretty well over time.
That's why it can be a sad day when a broadcast team member announces they are leaving the airwaves. In the Duluth market, it's not all that uncommon for broadcasters to leave, and it's usually for a bigger opportunity at another television station out of the area.
This, one popular local broadcaster announced he is leaving, and while he is moving out of the area, it's not for another broadcasting job.
FOX 21 Announces A Departure From Its Broadcast Team
On Wednesday, July 24, morning meteorologist Ken Slamma announced that after four years of providing forecasts for the Northland, he is leaving.
He announced in a heartfelt Facebook post that began, "After much thought, research, evaluation, reflection, prayer, and discussion with my wife, the time has come for me to move on from FOX 21 to my next endeavor in life".
Slama went on to say his four years at the station have been an honor and a privilege, as it provided him the chance to live out his dream of being a broadcast meteorologist. He also went on to thank members of his broadcast team and tell the community it has been his pleasure to provide forecasts since 2020.
His last day on the air will be Friday, July 26, there will be only two more chances to see him in action.
Slama will not be hitting the air elsewhere, he says the next chapter of his life will bring him back into the classroom as a high school chemistry teacher. While he didn't specify where he would be moving to, he did say it would be closer to family in an area where winter is a few months shorter than we have in the Northland.
Popular FOX 21 anchor Dan Hanger bid farewell to Slama by writing in part that he admired the decision.
Dan Hanger and Ken Slama will always be remembered for a funny moment they shared during a morning show broadcast that ended up on Jimmy Kimmel Live!
While a permanent replacement for Slam has yet to be named, it's worth noting that FOX 21 recently hired local meteorologist Karl Spring, who they said at the time would be filling in on all newscasts as needed. The biggest need now seems to lie in the morning broadcast.
