What Are Snow Fleas? All About The Minnesota Insect
This is a major no from me! Have you ever heard of a snow flea? I haven't until recently and unfortunately, they are alive and well in Minnesota.
A snow flea is exactly what you'd think it is and yes, this means we do actually have to deal with some sort of flea and bug activity in the winter. Sigh.
A snow flea is a tiny insect that thrives in winter months. They are also called springtails but that doesn't have the same effect. Ha!
They can be found on any given winter in our neck of the woods but do not bite. However, they might still give you the creeps, no?
Are They Actually Fleas?
Snow fleas are not actually fleas but they share similar characteristics, like their ability to jump from item to item. Snow fleas do not have wings so get around by jumping, making them extra creepy.

Another thing giving them the 'ick' factor is that they travel in groups and because of their dark color, are much more noticeable in the snow. They can gather and multiple quickly, according to Healthline.
