Construction in the Twin Ports continues with work being done on the Bong Bridge, many roadways in the area, the new Whole Foods Co-op in West Duluth, the maurices Corporation building and DTA's downtown transportation center (to name a few).  The latter will cause a 3 to 4 month closure of a popular skywalk for many foot pedestrians, and a 3 week street detour for vehicular traffice, here's what you should know.

Starting today, June 29, all northbound I-35 traffic that exits at 5th Avenue West with Canal Park or Lake Avenue as a destination will be detoured around the Duluth Entertainment and Convention Center (DECC) along Harbor Drive. Traffic can also take a left on 5th Avenue West and proceed to Superior Street towards Lake Avenue. Railroad Street and the frontage road to Lake Avenue alongside North I-35 will be closed during this detour. You will however, still have access to the DECC parking lot and ramp.

Reconstruction work on the NW Passage Skywalk actually started on June 22.  It hadn't affected the roadway they are closing today until now.  Phase One of the Northwest Passage Skywalk’s reconstruction is expected to last for approximately four months, but again, the road closures should only be 3-4 weeks.

Check back often, we will pass on any information the DTA shares with us.
