New City Voting Precinct Boundaries will Affect Some Duluth Voters in Next Election
With the next Primary Election Day set for next Tuesday, August 9th, the City of Duluth wants residents to be aware of changes to precinct boundaries that will have an impact on some Duluth voters.
According to the City, the changes are in response to the 2020 census, the results of which forced the City of Duluth to redraw the boundaries of election districts to ensure that the people of each district are equally represented.
They add that in March of this year, they established new boundaries that equalized, to the best of their ability, the number of people in each council district. This redistricting process led to new precinct boundaries, which ultimately created changes in voting locations for some residents of specific parts of the city.
Due to the state of Minnesota dividing the Gary-New Duluth neighborhood into two separate legislative districts, the boundaries of precincts 33 and 34 were required to be redrawn. In the new precinct maps, residents along the east side of Commonwealth
Avenue who previously voted in precinct 34 now belong to precinct 33.
What this means is that affected voters in the precinct will now vote at the Good Fellowship Community Center in Morgan Park, located at 1242 88th Avenue West.
If you're a voter in precinct 34, nothing changes. You will continue to vote at the GND Rec Center, located at 801 101st Avenue West.
In addition, precinct 20 was eliminated from the district maps. Voters in the area previously who had been in precinct 20 were moved into either precinct 19 or precinct 21.
The State of Minnesota does provide a handy online tool that enables voters to verify exactly where their polling place is located.
Remember, Primary Election Day is next Tuesday, August 9th. Polls in Duluth will open at 7:00 am and close at 8:00 p.m.
