Early voting options began on September 18, including voting early in person and voting by mail, with a ballot that you can track anytime to assure it is received and counted.

The General Election is Tuesday, November 3, 2020 but early voting can take place now through 5:00 p.m. on Monday, November 2.

Every voter is encouraged to request an absentee ballot as soon as possible to ensure you get your ballot in time to submit for the election.  A witness is NOT required for 2020 general election ballots of registered voters. Non-registered voters do require a witness for their 2020 general election ballot.

Once you get your ballot, here are tips on how Duluth residents can turn it in:

  • Voters are encouraged to mail return ballots by October 26, 2020 to ensure return delivery. Ballots postmarked on or before November 3, 2020 will be accepted until the close of business on November 10, 2020.
  • Voters can also deliver their ballot to Duluth City Hall. A secure drive-up ballot drop box is available for City of Duluth voters only at the 2nd Street Parking lot adjacent to City Hall. The drop box can be accessed by entering the parking lot one-way from 2nd Street. The drop box is monitored 24/7 by security camera.
  • Voters can hand deliver their ballot to a ballot box located within Duluth City Hall during in-person early voting hours, enter from Priley Circle. Hours for early voting are 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (Mon - Fri). Extended hours for early voting begin October 27, 2020: Tuesday, October 27, 2020 - Saturday, October 31, 2020 (8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.).  Monday, November 2, 2020 (8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.)

If you vote in person, you don't need to make an appointment to drop off your ballot.  Masks will also be provided should you not have one available.

Northland residents not in the city of Duluth, such as Superior, Hermantown, Cloquet, etc.  You also have the option to drop off your early ballot in person if you wish.  Simply check with your local government office for instructions.

There has been concern voiced by some wishing to mail in their ballot on how will they know if their ballot was received and their vote was counted. Any voter can check their ballot status at any time.
