Minnesotan Pens New Jake Owen Song
Minnesota really has some of the most talented songwriters in the business! A Minnesotan turned Nashville songwriter helped write a new Jake Owen song.
It may seem random but Duluth was once home to one of the biggest songwriters in Nashville. Jordan Schmidt now calls Nashville home but prior to making it big in Music City, he was a proud Duluthian. He is credited on some of the biggest hits in country music over the past few years.
He has cut songs for Granger Smith, Blake Shelton, Jason Aldean, Kane Brown, among many other artists. He even helped pen one of the biggest hits of Blake's career, which earned the country star several nominations and an ACM Award in 2020.
A Biwabik native named Emily Shackelton is also making a big name for herself in country music. She helped write Carly Pearce's debut single and the two have continued to work together ever since.
Now, we have another Minnesota country music connection courtesy of Zack Dyer. He is a songwriter in Nashville who is making a huge name for himself. He is so talented that Tim McGraw cut one of his songs for his album Here On Earth.
Now, Zack continues to make waves with a songwriting credit on a new song put out by Jake Owen. The song came out at the end of March and I just realized the connection when I went to see what he has been up to in Nashville on Instagram!
The song is called Up There Down Here. You may recognize the song if you were at Bayfront Country Jam earlier this month, as Jake sang it during his set! Zack shared his excitement about having Jake cut the song in his post, saying he is "so stoked and grateful" that the song is now out in the world.
The tune is a love song with a fun play on words. The song is penned about a girl who is amazing and who brings a little bit of heaven down to earth. It is a really sweet song, so much so that Jake even named his summer tour after it!
Maybe the song will be a radio single in the future. As of now, there is no word on if it is part of a new album or a one-off song. Either way, I think this song is going to blow up!
Jake Owen was just in Duluth headlining Bayfront Country Jam! He helped kick off Fourth of July weekend with a killer show that was packed with hits from start to finish. Like I mentioned, he even sang the song in question, which is even more sweet knowing this cool connection.
By the way, if you're curious what the country star was doing backstage prior to his headlining gig, we have the answer! One of the show's openers shared a fun photo of the two hanging out backstage, doing some surprisingly normal things like grilling some steak. Ha!
