Someone asked me when Kara Goucher, our hometown girl and marathon runner would compete.  Here's the details so we can cheer Kara on to a win for USA!

Kara Goucher, 33,  has run in countless races, against amazing athletes, including representing her Country in the 2008  Bejing Olympics and my guess is that none will hold a candle to running the London 2012 Olympic Marathon.

Some background on Olympic Marathon competition.  It dates way back to the year 1896, but athletes ran only 25 miles.  It was in the year 1908 that the race's length was extended from 25 miles to 26.2 because they wanted them to finish in front of the Royal Box.  That distance is still used today.

Kara will competing in the Woman's Olympic Marathon on August 5.  The Men's Marathon competition is August 12.  She will pass amazing landmarks like, the Tower of London, St. Paul's Cathedral, Buckingham Palace and more!

Kara Goucher ran for the Duluth East Greyhounds.  She was originally born in New York and moved to Duluth at age four.  You may remember her as Kara Wheeler.

Now she calls Portland, Oregon home, where she lives with her husband, fellow American runner Adam Goucher.  The couple recently welcomed a son, Colton (Colt) Mirko, on September 25, 2010.
