I think it is officially safe to say summer is over in the Twin Ports. I guess that is to be expected, considering that it is almost the end of September. It was fun while it lasted!

The good news is that (so far) we haven't seen any snow this month. You might be thinking that seems far-fetched but our earliest snowfall ever happened to be in September - the 18th to be exact! This happened back in 1991.

Another thing to note regarding our summer season is that it was much cooler compared to last year! We didn't see nearly as many ninety-degree days last summer. We still had our fair share of warmth, though.

Now, with summer behind us, we can start bracing for fall. According to the Weather Channel, we should see a warmer-than-average few months before winter. They are also forecasting a long fall, which means no early winter for the Northland - hopefully.

For some background, local meteorologists all agreed that Tuesday would be our last day of summer for awhile. We saw highs in the upper 70s across the Northland and enough sun to soak it in. However, meteorologists all agreed it would be short-lived.

Now that we are a few days removed from our last official summer day, let's reflect on how average our last day of summer really was. WDIO and WDIO Meteorologist Brandon Weatherz shared some interesting facts about it.

If the last day of summer holds true, it would be pretty normal. It looks like our average "last day of summer" in Duluth usually happens around September 15th. I appreciate the few extra days of summer even if it is just a few.

Well over one-hundred years ago, the Duluth area got summer weather all the way through late October! While that would be nice, I feel like we need fall like weather in October so we can really get in the Halloween spirit.

Last but not least, I am very thankful that we didn't have a situation this year like that in 1977, where we saw our last eighty-degree day in late July. That is absolutely wild. While anything is possible, I don't think we are going back to hot weather anytime for the rest of the year.

While we gear up for fall, it may not be a bad idea to start preparing for winter. The Farmer's Almanac released their winter weather predictions for the season and it looks like it is going to be another brutal winter - no surprise there.
