Let me start by saying that you should not get mad at the messenger! The Farmer's Almanac has released their official winter weather predictions for the 2022 to 2023 season.

Last winter season was a little bit rough but nothing we aren't used to in the Twin Ports. Winter came after record-breaking heat, as September of 2021 was one of the warmest on record for Duluth.

The Old Farmer's Almanac scared us a bit when they released their overall winter weather predictions. They shared that the winter would be one of the longest and coldest in years. It definitely felt long and cold.

Another standout moment from the winter was a strange storm in December of last year. It not only brought snow but it also brought strong winds and thunderstorm activity. It definitely felt like one of those "end of the world" movies.

Now, another winter is on the way and the Farmer's Almanac has some things to say about it. Take a deep breath and prepare yourself because it looks like this winter will be anything but mild!

When Will Winter Arrive?

Yikes. The Farmer's Almanac says that it is "time to stock up" on all of your favorite ways to keep warm because this winter is coming in hot. (No pun intended). The Farmer's Almanac says this winter will "have plenty of snow, rain and mush" with some record-breaking cold temperatures as well.

The Farmer's Almanac also says that the first taste of winter will arrive earlier than last year and that everyone should prepare to "shake, shiver and shovel" which does not sound like much fun to me!

How Many Major Winter Storms Can We Expect?

The Farmer's Almanac mentions two major storms expected to hit our area this winter, both in January. The first major storm is expected to hit the first week of January, which will start the new year off on a cold foot. The storm will bring "heavy snow" and "a sweep of bitterly cold air" to our area.

They are forecasting a monster winter storm from January 16th through the 23rd that will hit most of the country, bringing heavy rain and snow once again to the eastern half of the country.

After the storm in question, the Farmer's Almanac says we could see one of the "coldest outbreaks of arctic air we have seen in several years" up to forty degrees below zero. While this does sound awful, we are pretty much used to that in the Twin Ports.

How Much Snow Will We Get?

Of course, this varies depending on where you live. The Farmer's Almanac says that those that love snow will be happy, hinting that we will see much of it in our area. They also make mention of a white Christmas. They don't get into specifics on storm totals.

How Cold Will It Get?

Brace yourself for this. It looks like we will be hiding indoors most of the winter. Minnesota can expect a "glacial and snow-filled" winter, calling our region a "hibernation zone" coming soon. Wisconsin will have it a bit better, with an "unreasonably cold and snowy" winter.

I don't know about you but I am going to soak up every single second of summer while I can!
