September is over with and now that fall is in full swing, we can pretty much rest assured that winter will be here soon.

September is always a transitional month for us here in the Twin Ports. It can be warm or downright cold as we see the seasons change and you just never really know what you are going to get.

After all, it has been a wild year in terms of weather in the Twin Ports. We had a brutally cold start to the year. At one point, we had nearly three-hundred hours worth of wind chill advisories. It is safe to say February was not very fun in Duluth.

This summer was the exact opposite, with one of the warmest summers ever for the Duluth area. We saw several heat waves and broke many records over the course of June and July. This year really has been all over the place.

While things calmed down a bit in September, we still had a record-breaking month in Duluth. FOX 21 Chief Meteorologist Sam Gabrielli shared more about the records on his Facebook page earlier this month.

According to his report, September will go down in history as being one of the warmest in Duluth. It will be on the record as a top 10 warmest September for Duluth with twenty days seeing above average temperatures.

Not only did we see one of the warmest Septembers ever for Duluth but we continued our hot streak of sorts. This is still the warmest year ever for Duluth. While there are a few months left to go before we can officially have that title, it looks like we are still on track for it.

October will certainly bring us a more fall-like feel. The Old Farmer's Almanac is predicting we will see our first snowfall this month in Duluth. They are also forecasting cold conditions and periods of snow throughout October, not just once.

This will likely be just the beginning as the National Weather Service is telling us to brace for another brutal winter courtesy of La Niña. We had a La Niña winter last year, which wrapped up earlier this year. Now, it looks like we are going to be dealing with yet another.

The Old Farmer's Almanac is also forecasting a brutal winter season. Their winter outlook is calling for a "season of shivers" with one of the longest, coldest winters we've seen in awhile. It is all just par for the course in Duluth.
