Duluth Kids Grade 2-5 Can Sign Up For Rookie Basketball League

The Rookie Basketball Association (RBA) is offering a 3 on 3 POD play basketball league to children that will begin this November. They are working on providing basketball activities in a safe manner for youth in The Northland. Registration is underway now through October 30. The season begins in NovemberThe RBA league games will take place in partnership with the Duluth Salvation Army with games taking place at their gym.

The kids will be playing full contact basketball in 3 person teams. They will follow the COVID-19 safety guidelines recommended by The Minnesota Department of Health. Some of the COVID-19 changes being made this year. Instead of registering as a team, individuals will register. Players will be assigned to "pods" based on their age and gender. That pod then will play together in a 50 minute block each week. That time will vary during the schedule. A maximum of 20 players will be allowed into each pod in a first come, first served basis.

Inside the pods, players will be allowed to to choose a friend to be with. There will no longer be "pinnies" use for player teams. Everyone will be asked to bring a white t-shirt, and they will receive a darker colored league t-shirt to play with. This way players will be able to change their shirt color based on team matchups and not have to share any further pinnies.

They will not be allowing any spectators or fans at this time, and players will have health screenings at the door.

Registration is $45 per athlete, and that does include the league t-shirt. If a family has more than one child participating, they will receive a $5 per child discount.

The Rookie Basketball Association is an entry level basketball program for boys and girls in the city of Duluth. In 2019 720 kids participated in the program. Also with the help of sponsors the RBA was able to provide free registration for 76 kids from low income families.
