Ken, my co-host,  keeps telling me the ice is thick enough, but with the warm weather we've had, I'm still a little nervous.  According to our TV  partners, the Northland's News Center, the deadline to have your Ice Shelters/Cribs off the lake is coming soon! (and if the weather keeps getting warmer, sooner than you think!)  Don't forget to vote for your favorite Northland Ice Crib [here]!

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources advises anglers that the deadline for removing fish houses, dark houses and portable shelters on the state's waterways are approaching due to the mild winter.

Shelters that are located south of Minnesota Highway 200 and U.S. Highway 2 must be removed no later than midnight on March 5th.

For shelters that are located north of Minnesota Highway 200 and U.S. Highway 2 also must be removed no later than midnight on March 19th.

The Minnesota-Canada border waters removal date is March 31st, the Minnesota-Iowa border waters is February 20th, Minnesota-South Dakota and North Dakota borders is March 5th and the Minnesota-Wisconsin water borders is March 1st.

After the removal dates, shelters can remain on the ice between midnight and one hour before sunrise only when occupied.

DNR officials says that if shelters are not removed, owners will be prosecuted and structures may be prosecuted and structures could be confiscated and removed, or destroyed.
