In the wake of of George Floyd's tragic death in Minneapolis, while in custody of the Minneapolis Police Department, and the ensuing protests and firing of the four Minneapolis police officers involved, the Cloquet Police Department reached out to the community.

In a post on the Cloquet Police Department Facebook page, Interim Chief Derek Randall reached out to the residents of Cloquet, Scanlon, and the Fond du Lac Reservation to voice support for the diversity within community and to share their Use Of Force training policy, which does include a provision "requiring officers to intercede should they witness excessive force."

All of us at the Cloquet Police Department want you to know that we cherish and value our diverse community and that your safety and protection is our highest regard.

You can follow the link to his Facebook post below and read the full Use Of Force section from the Cloquet Police Department Policy Manual.  When it comes to having officers stop the use of excessive force if witnessed, here is what it states:

300.2.1 DUTY TO INTERCEDE

Any officer present and observing another officer using force that is clearly beyond that which is objectively reasonable under the circumstances shall, when in a position to do so, intercede to prevent the use of unreasonable force.  An officer who observes another employee use force that exceeds the degree of force permitted by law should promptly report these observations to a supervisor.
