We've had a lot of time to give shows a chance that maybe we normally wouldn't lately. I can say that I probably never would have watched Tiger King if we weren't stuck inside, and I'm glad I did. However, when we finished it, we found ourselves in a show hole. I've tried watching several movies since on Netflix, and none of them really held my interest. But, Mel Gibson in 'Blood Father' did. I watched it yesterday and I have to say, it is worth watching. Here's my thoughts in a spoiler free review.

Mel Gibson can still carry a movie. It's a familiar role with Mel Gibson. It has shades of Martin Riggs in Lethal Weapon, but that's to be expected with Gibson. And, it's fine too. He plays the part of an ex con working on his sobriety and getting along with his life. His daughter has been missing for quite some time, but he never really was much a part of her life. She ends up getting in trouble with some bad guys and goes on the run. It's now Gibson's character Link to keep her safe.

It's an action packed movie. Gibson carries it, but there are also strong performances from known actors such as William H. Macy and Diego Luna. Erin Moriarty plays the daughter, and she does a fine job in the role.

I saw the ending come a mile away, but it still didn't disappoint.  Maybe it has something to do with the fact that during this 2020 COVID-19 Pandemic, seeing Gibson in a familiar role is somehow strangely comforting. Maybe I'm just grateful for something else to watch, and this moving filled a void. But I sincerely enjoyed it, looking beyond the flaws. If you're looking for something to kill an hour and a half, give this one a shot on Netflix.
