
2017 Birkebeiner Cancelled Due To Poor Trail Conditions, Introduces First Ever Birkebeiner Celebration
The weather conditions just haven't worked out for the 2017 Birkebeiner Ski races this weekend. Unseasonably warm weather along with rain melted away the snow. There was a last minute hope that the snowstorm predicted would save the ski event, but the storm went further east.
That left a hard decision to be made, and the American Birkebeiner Ski Foundation decided for safety reasons not to hold the ski races. However, they have introduced a new concept: The Birkiestock 2017.
Starting at 9:30 am on Saturday, buses will begin transporting riders from the Como parking lot to the Birkebeiner trailhead where they will have a 5k loop of trucked in snow that people can ski. They will also have live music, a soup tent, the Birkie Brew-ski,
