There will be an open house held for the public to hear about a proposed plan that will make the West Duluth sports corridor a premiere athletic destination for Northeastern Minnesota.  You should fill out the questionnaire and attend the meeting to have your voice heard.  A project like this is important to our future athletes and the revenue potential our to our City could be enormous.

The mini-master plan from the City of Duluth would include Wheeler Athletic Complex, Wade Stadium Complex, and the Heritage Sports Center.

Mark your calendar for the open house scheduled for Tuesday, March 3, at 6p at the Wheeler Field House,35th Avenue West & Grand Avenue in Duluth. You could help shape the future of the West Duluth Sports Corridor. It's all part of an eight month mini-master plan for the corridor, which began in December 2014. They are hoping it will be completed by August 2015. A second open house, to review mini-master plan concepts, will be held in May.  I'll be sure to let you know when that date is scheduled.

The plan will identify the following:

  • Recommend improvements to Wheeler Athletic Complex and Field House.
  • Address improvements to the Wade Stadium Complex. The mini-master plan will address the baseball and softball fields south of the stadium, parking, and circulation. Stadium improvements are being addressed in a separate study.
  • Identify connectivity, signage, and identity improvements needed to create a cohesive corridor connecting Wheeler Athletic Complex, Wade Stadium Complex, and the Heritage Sports Center.
  • Inform the preferred alignment for the Cross City Trail between the Heritage Sports Center and Wheeler Athletic Complex.

You have until March 31 to fill out a questionnaire that will help the City of Duluth understand how the sports corridor is being used today, how it can better serve residents, and how it can become an even more desirable location for regional tournaments and recreation.
