The Minnesota Wild continue to make moves, trading a 2019 fifth-round conditional draft pick to the Vegas Golden Knights to acquire defenseman Brad Hunt and a sixth-round draft pick in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. The trade was announced shortly after the Wild beat the Golden Knights 4-2 on Monday night.  In a news release from the Wild, the team also shared that they reassigned Louie Belpedio to the team's AHL team, the Iowa Wild.

Hunt, a 30 year-old Canadian from British Columbia, has ties to Minnesota. He played four years of college hockey at Bemidji State University. During his time at BSU, the Beavers made their only NCAA Division I Frozen Four appearance (2008-2009 season). Hunt claimed a CHA Rookie of the Year award for his freshman campaign, and posted 112 points (24 goals, 88 assists) in 150 games (2008-2012) at BSU.

Since college, Hunt has spent time between the AHL and NHL, making his NHL debut in January of 2014 with the Edmonton Oilers, and has also played for the St. Louis Blues, Nashville Predators, and most recently the Vegas Golden Knights. Hunt has spent most of this year as a healthy scratch for Vegas, notching 2 goals and 5 assists in 13 games for the Golden Knights. During last year's campaign with Vegas, Hunt posted a career high 18 points (3 goals, 15 assists) in 45 games.

The acquisition of Hunt provides a left-shooting defenseman to add to the Wild's depth on the blue line. It also adds a veteran presence with championship series experience, having been on the roster with the Golden Knights last year during their run to the Stanley Cup Finals against the Washington Capitals. KnightsOnIce.com called Hunt "an important influence in the locker room, even when he was not in the lineup" for Vegas.
