Official Location For New Minnesota Hockey Hall Of Fame Announced
They call Minnesota "The State of Hockey" for good reasons. The state has a deep-rooted, widespread passion for the sport, producing vast amounts of talent from youth to professional levels, hosting massive high school tournaments, and having a rich heritage dating back to the late 1800s.
Also, since 1973, the United States Hockey Hall of Fame Museum has been located in Eveleth, Minnesota. The museum is dedicated to honoring the legends of American hockey and preserving the sport's history within the United States.
Recently, the Minnesota Hockey Hall of Fame (MNHHOF) announced that it was planning to build a new state-of-the-art multipurpose facility, providing yet another reason for the "State of Hockey" name.
The big questions were what would be included in this new facility, and where in Minnesota would it be located? We now have the answers.
New Minnesota Hockey Hall of Fame Construction Details
The Minnesota Hockey Hall of Fame (MNHHOF) has announced that the City of Inver Grove Heights will be the official location of the future MNHHOF, a 120,000-plus square-foot, multi-purpose facility.
The project will be located on approximately 40 acres adjacent to Interstate 494 and just east of Vikings Lakes and the Minnesota Vikings training complex.
According to the MNHHOF, the project is a partnership between Consumer Science North, a private Bloomington-based development company, and the MNHHOF, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, which is guided by a diverse advisory board made up of some of Minnesota’s most influential hockey figures, and supported by an ambassador program of more than 150 men and women who have made lasting contributions to the game in Minnesota.
“Since announcing this legacy project in August, the outpouring of support from players past and present, Minnesota-based companies, and hockey fans statewide has been overwhelming,” said MNHHOF CEO Natalie Darwitz.
The Minnesota Hockey Hall of Fame promises to be more than just a museum; it will also function as a dynamic, interactive destination. Current plans include:
- 30,000-square-foot museum featuring a Great Hall and five exhibit wings
- State-of-the-art ice rink
- 20,000-square-foot performance venue
- Hockey-themed restaurant and taproom
- Multiple signature events and community spaces

In addition to honoring Minnesota’s hockey heritage, the Hall promises to focus on advancing the sport through grassroots programming, traveling exhibits, and statewide youth education initiatives.
Consumer Science North and the Minnesota Hockey Hall of Fame hope to break ground in 2026, with a grand opening projected for late 2028.
