UMD Bulldogs Return To Frozen Four After 3-1 Victory Over Quinnipiac
The defending NCAA Division 1 Men's Hockey champions are returning to the Frozen Four, after completing a 2-1 overtime win over Bowling Green on Saturday and a 3-1 victory over Quinnipiac University on Sunday to win the Midwestern bracket of the tournament.
After a scoreless first period, Peter Krieger scored for the Bulldogs at the 15:12 mark in the second period to break the scoreless tie. Kobe Roth doubled UMD's lead at the 14:58 mark in the third period. Quinnipiac went empty net late in the third period, and Craig Martin scored for the Bobcats at the 17:57 mark, cutting UMD's lead in half. Parker Mackay scored an empty net goal on a breakaway with less than a minute left in the game, giving UMD the 3-1 victory.
This is UMD's third straight Frozen Four appearance. In 2017, they lost 3-2 in the National Championship to Denver; and they defeated Notre Dame 2-1 in 2018 to claim the school's second championship title (2011, 2018).
UMD is joined in the Frozen Four in Buffalo, New York, by Denver, Massachusetts, and Providence. The Bulldogs will play against Providence at 4 pm (Central Time) on April 11 in their first game, and Denver will play Massachusetts at 7:30 pm (Central Time) on April 11. The winners will play for the National Championship on April 13 at 7 pm (Central Time). All of the games will be televised on ESPN2.
