Two Former UMD Bulldog Football Players Will Join Bob Nielson as Assistants at Western Illinois
Former Bulldogs Head Football Coach Bob Nielson recently left UMD to be the Head Coach at Western Illinois. Monday the Leathernecks announced that two former Bulldogs will be joining him.
Tyler Yelk, a former UMD player and Defensive backs coach and special teams coordinator, along as the recruiting coordinator for the Bulldogs will be the Defensive backs coach and special teams coach at Western Illinois.
In addition, former UMD Bulldogs quarterback Ted Schlafke, will be the Passing game coordinator for the Leathernecks of Western Illinois. He played at UMD and helped them win a national title at quarterback.
So Monday, UMD and Head Coach Curt Wiese announced that Greg Bower will be the new special team’s coordinator at UMD taking over for Yelk. Bower will also be in charge of the defensive secondary. The 42 year–old has been with River Falls since the 2008 season. He also coached at Division One Northern Illinois.
Wiese had several recruits in town over the weekend and was on the road on Monday talking to more.
