The public is invited to participate in a series of fun events leading up to the 39th running of the John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon.

No matter the month or season, there is no shortage of amazing events all year long in Duluth and beyond!

It's time for the 35th Annual John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon, which begins this weekend, and spectators will have plenty of places to view the race and enjoy related activities.

Cathie English, a folk singer/songwriter from Saint Cloud Minnesota, has written a song inspired by the legendary John Beargrease and she's sharing it through ReverbNation.

Dog sledding can be dangerous.  Just ask Jeff King how wore a Go Pro camera on his dog sled and took quite a wild ride.  The sled crashed and tipped over a few times, and it becomes apparent how you are at the mercy of the dogs at times.  Check it out!

It was a tight race, but musher Ryan Anderson won the 31st annual John Beargrease Sled Dog Marthon. This is Anderson's second full-distance win, having already won in 2011.

Over this past weekend, John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon organizers had to make a decision as to whether the event would go on as planned or be postponed due to poor trail conditions.  A decision has been made that will impact the logistics of the race.

Almost as quickly as it was announced that the 30th running of the John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon would be cancelled due to lack of funds and the need to reorganize, there was a change in leadership and the race will is now expected to be run as originally scheduled.

The John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon was looking forward to it's 30th anniversary in January, but for now the annual race has been cancelled.

The John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon was supposed to happen in January, but was postponed due to weather.  It got underway on Sunday and early this morning the winner crossed the finish line.

The weather hasn't been the best of friends to organizers and mushers with the Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon and this year it has forced a later start.
