The John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon was looking forward to it's 30th anniversary in January, but for now the annual race has been cancelled.

Startribune.com is reporting that the race is in financial trouble and needs time to get money and to reorganize.  It's reported that the race needs about $50,000, some of which goes to prize money to attract elite mushers.

Let's hope taking a year off will only make the John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon strong for the long run.
