One day for people who need help to get it. Community Connect holds a one day free event on Wednesday October 22nd, for people experiencing poverty and homelessness and people in need of hygiene items, IDs, employment, drug/alcohol treatment, voter registration, outdoor survival gear, child care, health care, and other vital services to connect and get the help they need.

We all know that Richard Gere is a good actor, but in this case he's really convincing.  He's preparing for a new role for the film "Time Out of MInd" in New York, and they are currently shooting scenes.  A woman actually saw Gere and handed him a bag of food!  He didn't break character, and took the food.  See what he looks like!

It amazes me when I hear of the homeless in our area.  But, if you look close, they're there, wandering the city streets in tattered clothing, looking for warmth, a hearty meal and friendship.

Pay it forward, act of kindness, these are phrases that are helpful. Sometimes the smallest show of kindness or charity will go a long way. Ever wonder what a little favor may do? I have been fortunate to find out I have inspired people, and have told the people that have inspired me, what a difference they have made in my life.

Steve O'Neil has always worked to help people. My late Grandma June used to work Steve's name into every conversation because she believed in helping people too and was inspired many times by the work that Steve has done.

I love the Soup Nazi character from Seinfeld.  It's one of my favorite episodes.  Now the actor that played him, Larry Thomas, is using his soup fame to help feed soup to people in need.

The countdown is on to Art In Bayfront Park.  This year, it's more than a Community event to showcase and highlight the talent of 180 artisans.  It will also help the homeless children in the Duluth area.

I am not sure how I feel about this idea. Homeless people are at an all time high, and money for help is at an all time low. How do we settle it? Maybe this is an idea, maybe not. See what you think. A marketing stunt where homeless people were turned into walking internet hotspots with T-shirts proclaiming 'I'm a 4G hotspot' has caused outcry in Texas...

It's nice to hear stories about this.  Too often media focuses on bad things that happen.  I thought I needed to share this with you. A retired 72 year old military veteran noticed a woman and her grandson walking out from the woods.  He notified police.  He also opened up his home for her and her grandson that night.

If you haven’t had a good cry today, this should do it. When a homeless Iowa man, 57-year-old Kevin McClain, was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer, his move to a hospice meant giving up his dog, Yurt. As his condition worsened, his only wish was to be reunited with the faithful companion who’d lived in his car with him.

An air conditioner repairman made a startling discovery while doing work at a Waffle House in Atlanta, Georgia. According to reports, he found a man living on the roof of the Gordon Highway location. Authorities were quickly notified, and police and firemen were called in to bring him down.
