Suspect Flees Police Through Woods Down Thompson Hill, Into Kingsbury Creek + Ends In Lake Superior Zoo
This may be the wildest police chase so far this spring for a couple of local police departments. The Duluth Police Department shared details about an arrest they assisted the Proctor Police Department with on April 10, 2023.
According to the Duluth Police Department, around 4:50 pm they assisted the Proctor Police in attempting to locate a trailer that was stolen by a business. They found the vehicle and trailer located at Highway 2 and W Skyline Parkway. The suspect fled on foot and went into the woods of Thompson Hill. Officers pursued the individual.
The male suspect then jumped into Kingsbury Creek trying to avoid officers. With the intense spring snow melt, the creek was full of ice-cold, rushing water.
Police were able to track the suspect who had then made an entry into a fenced-in area at the Lake Superior Zoo. The area was not an animal or exhibit enclosure.
The suspect has been identified as 27-year-old Duluth resident Andrew Langenbrunner. He was transported to a local hospital for an evaluation and then lodge at the St. Louis County Chail. He is facing charges of theft and fleeing.
The Duluth Police Department says the incident demonstrates the tremendous teamwork by local law enforcement agencies and the Mayo Ambulance. Hermantown Police, St. Louis County Sheriff's Office, and Duluth Fire Department all worked together in this incident.
