Superior Mayor Gives Update on Election and Unemployment

Superior Mayor Jim Paine took to social media to give citizens an update on the 2020 election and unemployment in the city.

Paine said that 500 people have stopped by City Hall to vote already and over 5,000 mail-in ballots have been received by the city. With a population of 26,000, that means that a 1/3 of the population has already voted  in the 2020 election.

"If you haven’t voted yet, I gotta ask: What’s the hold up? We are still in a pandemic and our poll workers are still vulnerable so I really need your help reducing the numbers on Election Day. But Superior is doing a great job so far. Thank you," said Paine.

He also gave an update on unemployment numbers in the city, at the start of the pandemic unemployment in the city hit a high of 21.1%, but the latest numbers show that the city has come along way, the rate has dropped for the 6th straight month, the current number is 6.9%.

Paine says, "Our efforts to stabilize businesses have clearly helped and several new businesses have opened or expanded but I also know a lot are still struggling. Please, if you know a small local business that is getting desperate, let us know."

Overall, the Mayor says that things are looking good and that he sees "a pretty big light" at the end of the tunnel.
