The three-time championship-winning UMD Bulldog Hockey head coach Scott Sandelin will be sticking around for a few more years. Just days after news that Sandelin would be interviewing with the NHL's Anaheim Ducks for their head coaching position, the agreement to a contract extension will keep him in Duluth through the 2024-2025 season.

In a release from the university, Sandelin offered the following statement:

"I want to publicly thank (UMD Athletic Director) Josh Berlo and (UMD Chancellor) Lendley Black for their continued support and commitment to our men's hockey program. I am so fortunate to work with a great coaching and support staff and some tremendous student-athletes. We have worked hard to build a culture of excellence both on and off the ice and I look forward to being a part of that in the years to come."

Financial terms for the extension were not released, but WDIO is reporting that the agreement is pending approval from the University of Minnesota Board of Regents during their upcoming June meeting. An official informed WDIO that Sandelin's 2019-2020 payout will now be $400,000 in 2019-20 (not including bonuses and incentives), and will include a $10,000 per year raise built in for the remaining years of the deal, capping out at $450,000 in 2024-2025. In 2016, Sandelin signed an extension that still had two years remaining after the end of this season. He was set to make $330,000 in 2019-20 and $350,000 in 2020-21 prior to his new extension.

Sandelin has been at the helm of the Bulldogs program for 19 seasons, coaching the team to all three of their Division I titles. The first of those championships was in 2011, followed by back-to-back championships in 2018 and 2019.

Sandelin is the winningest coach in UMD history, going 369-311-87 in his tenure with the team. He also has more victories than any other NCHC coach, going 76-55-13 in the six seasons since the formation of the conference.
