Fall officially began on September 22 and soon the Northland will receive its first widespread freeze of the season.

After a windy Sunday, the National Weather Service in Duluth says overnight temperatures will soon be dropping to the point where residents should start preparing for winter.

The National Weather service shared that reminder, as well as a forecast update, throughout the weekend on their Facebook page.

The first widespread freeze of the fall season is expected early this week. Temperatures could fall to the freezing mark or colder on Monday night and especially Tuesday night.

When it comes to preparing for winter, the National Weather Service says it important to do the things we often overlook until it's too late. These tasks include

  • Disconnect and drain garden hoses
  • Toss a blanket and snow shovel in the back of your vehicle
  • Take in plants that you want to overwinter indoors

While overnight temps will drop significantly at the beginning of the week, the good news is that daytime temps should warm up throughout the week, peaking on Friday.

Here is the current Twin Ports forecast, according to our media partners at WDIO-TV.

Monday
Mostly sunny, with a high near 57. Breezy, with a northwest wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.
