A scary situation has the Cloquet Police Department on high alert.

According to a post on their Facebook page late Sunday evening, staff at Cloquet High School informed them of a 'potential threat against the school by a student.'

CPD says they responded and found the student who made the threats, who told them the comments were a joke.

Their investigation led police to believe the student's comments have no merit. Still, they will have an extra presence at the school and will continue to monitor the situation until further notice.

The superintendent of Cloquet Public Schools also addressed the situation over the weekend:

"Over the weekend, Cloquet Schools administration was made aware of social media posts made by a Cloquet High School student which were investigated as potential threats against the school. Cloquet Police were dispatched to the home immediately to investigate. They were informed that the posts were considered a joke by the student. Cloquet Public Schools takes student safety very seriously. Communications that appear to be threats to student safety will be investigated thoroughly and strict discipline will be implemented. Safety is our top priority. To reassure our students and families, we are planning an increased police presence on Monday at our high school and middle school campus."

While responding to comments on their initial post, CPD stated that these types of calls are 'dynamic' and they respond to each one based on information they are given.

In this instance, they said they are 'confident in our response and are prepared to ensure the safety of our students.'
