New Documentary ‘This Town’ Features Northern Stories of MN Towns
There's a new documentary by WDSE that will air soon that tells the stories of Northern Minnesota communities. It's called 'This Town' and it will feature the "seldom told stories of small towns and the people who live in them."
The documentary will focus on Grand Portage, Sandstone, Ball Club and Kettle River, along with origin stories about Cloquet, Soudan, and Ely. It's being narrorated by storyteller Kevin Kling, who is also a NPR commentator and Osseo, MN native. Grammy winning songwriter John Vezner composed the music to accompany the documentary.
"This Town" will focus on what it means like to live in a small town, and what it means to live in one now and in the future. Among the featured topics will be the Grand Portage Rendezvous Days & Pow-Wow, which is a big festival in Cook County every August.
The documentary also focuses on how small town business and economics have changed such as Sandstone shifting from a mining town into a rock climbing town.
The documentary airs on March 2nd at 7pm on PBS North, and immediately following it will stream on PBS videos for WDSE and WRPT members.
