Highway 2 Closure Will Reroute Drivers for Several Weeks
Springtime in the Northland means the start of road projects around the region, and a new project was just announced that you'll want to know about, as a portion of a busy Northern Minnesota highway will see a multi-week closure that will impact drivers.
Authorities with St. Louis County shared that a segment of Highway 2 just west of Duluth will be closed down for a few weeks, starting on Monday, April 14.
The immediate stretch of Highway 2 is in the Saginaw area, between Minnesota Highways 33 and 194.

The closure is being instigated by crews from CN Railroad making repairs to a railroad bridge in the area.
There are two different detour routes, depending on what you're driving. Most vehicles will be able to take Saginaw Road (County 46) to Highway 33 to return to Highway 2.

Due to load restrictions, there is a separate truck route that requires a little longer detour. The truck detour route goes all the way around Grand Lake, using Minnesota Highway 194 to Canosia Road (County 98) to County Highway 7 (Industrial Road) to reach Minnesota Highway 33, eventually getting back to Highway 2.
Officials with St. Louis County say the closure and detour are expected to last about three weeks, starting on Monday, April 14, and are expected to conclude on Friday, May 2.
The detour routes will be marked with signage, so finding your way won't be too difficult. Just expect a slightly longer and different route if you're traveling Highway 2 between Proctor and Floodwood for the next few weeks.
