The massive wall of ice at Barkers Island in Superior Wisconsin has crumbled down as of this morning.  The project was expected to reach 90 feet wide and 75 feet high by mid February.  There hasn't been comment yet on why the failure happened, but one could speculate that the odd weather temperature changes could have something to do with it.

Residents of Superior have taken to social media and mentioned they heard cracking earlier in the day coming from the sculpture.  At this time, no comment has been made from the official facebook page, or the creator Roger Hanson himself.

The project was partially funded by the city of Superior and cost $30,000.  It was a controversial expense for some people in the city, drawing criticism for the cost.

I was personally excited to see the project finished.  I brought my kids by it each day to see the progress.  Even if people were against it, no one wins with this sad outcome.

A press conference will be coming up soon with an announcement from the Mayor and the creator Roger Hanson.  To make matters worse, a reporter from the New York Times was in town to write a story about the project, and witnessed it collapse.
