Hermantown Will Celebrate “National Night Out” For The First Time

Hermantown Governmental Services Building will be the site of the first "National Night Out" For Hermantown, says Joe Wicklund, Hermantown Communications Director.

This Tuesday, August 2, Hermantown residents are invited to make their way out and visit with members of the Hermantown Volunteer Fire Department and the Hermantown Police Department.

There will also be food and drinks at both locations, said Jim Crace, Hermantown’s Chief of Police. Even though Chief Jim Crace says, Hermantown is still a small city but certainly growing, this event has become important for people to get out and meet each other.

In 2019, the HPD  stopped doing a traditional night out and decided to do a central location visit for people actually to get out and come together at one location. Because it went over so well, it led to a continuation of the city-wide approach in 2021, after taking off a year because of COVID.

Chief of Police Jim Crace says this is a great way for people to know their neighbors and neighborhoods better and make it a closer community. He went on to say every year as the community of Hermantown grows, so can the event and the way they do things to make each year better.

The Hermantown "National Night Out" event begins at 4:30 p.m. and continues until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 2nd.

According to the official National Night Out website, the night is an annual community-building campaign that puts people with the police community and in Hermantown's case, the volunteer Fire Department, to try to create partnerships and find a way for neighbors to meet neighbors and make stronger communities.

National Night Out enhances the relationship between people and their law enforcement to have clear conversations about how people feel answering questions about what they want to know. The hope is to open the lines of communication.
