Help Give A Big Welcome Home To Our Northland Olympians This Week
It was a fun, and at times nerve-racking, few weeks watching the Winter Olympics. It was extra special this year knowing so many amazing athletes were representing the Northland. In the end, many of those athletes struck gold.
If you want to see the stars in person and give them a big congratulations, you can! Everyone is invited and encouraged to head to the Duluth International Airport around 5 Monday evening to welcome them home.
According to the Duluth News Tribune, the U.S. men's curling team will be landing from South Korea. This includes Superior's John Shuster, Duluth's John Landsteiner, Tyler George and Joe Polo, McFarland's Matt Hamilton and Eveleth's Phill Drobnick.
U.S. women's curling team members and Duluth natives Cory Christensen and Aileen Geving will also be landing.
Shuster himself confirmed the event, tweeting that the team would be landing between 5 and 5:30 p.m.
The team members will get a special police escort to their homes from there, courtesy of the Duluth and Superior Police Departments.
It's been a huge few weeks for the team. (We aren't talking about their Twitter feud with Kirstie Alley, either). They upset Canada and went on to beat Sweden 10 to 7 for the gold medal early Saturday morning.
By the way - if you can't make the homecoming, don't fret. According to the Duluth Curling Club's website, there will be another special event Tuesday night at the DECC. It will be held in the Lake Superior Ballroom from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Both of the U.S. curling teams will be there, along with other Olympic representatives from the Northland.
Can't wait to see those medals!
