A variety of herbs commonly available at Walmart is involved in a voluntary recall effort. Red Monkey Foods, Inc. has chosen to recall their products containing organic parsley "out of an abundance of caution" as some of the bulk lot-supplies of that herb have been found to be potentially contaminated with Salmonella. Red Monkey Foods, Inc. packages and sells herbs under a variety of brand names - including Great Value - a product commonly sold at Walmart stores nationwide.

The recall stems from one initiated by High Quality Organics (HQO).  HQO issued their own recall involving organic parsley - and they are a supplier of that herb to Red Monkey Foods, Inc - which sells it as parsley and as an ingredient in their herbes de provence product.

According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, there have been "no consumer complaints or reported cases of Salmonellosis in connection with these products".  Each of the herb companies are simply using caution.

Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections, endocarditis and arthritis."
