Former Twins Manager Ron Gardenhire Diagnosed with Prostate Cancer
Former Minnesota Twins manager Ron Gardenhire has always been a fan and player favorite and today he announced to his new team that he's been diagnosed with prostate cancer.
According to StarTribune.com, Gardenhire, who is now a bench coach for the Arizona Diamondbacks, announced the news to the team Tuesday morning.
He was diagnosed earlier this month after a blood test taken during a physical exam revealed the possibility of cancer. A follow-up MRI confirmed the diagnosis and he will now prepare to have surgery within the next several weeks.
The good news is that it was caught early and after the surgery and the prognosis is good. In fact, follow-up chemotherapy will likely not be necessary. Gardenhire could return to the Diamondbacks six weeks after the surgery.
