The Minnesota Twins announced via social media today that they will replace Ron Gardenhire as manager going into the upcoming 2015 season. The decision comes following the end of a fourth straight season in which the team lost at least 90 games.

In a release, the team said they will start an immediate search for a new manager. They will look at both internal and external candidates to fill the job Gardenhire has held for 13 years. 'Gardy' had one more year left on his two-year extension that was signed last offseason.

Since taking over for long-time manager Tom Kelly in 2002, Gardenhire has guided the Twins to six American League Central Division titles. During the first nine years of his tenure as manager, he posted an 803-656 record. The first year at Target Field was the last year the Twins posted a winning record, winning 94 games and clenching the AL Central title. The 2011 season saw a sharp decline in wins, with the team posting the first of multiple losing seasons.
