Fisher Price + CPSC Warn About Infant Deaths From Rock ‘N’ Play

A popular baby item is the subject of a warning from both the Consumer Product Safety Commission and it's manufacturer.  Fisher Price is alerting consumers about the danger of infant roll-over deaths in connection with it's Rock 'N' Play product.

According to the CPSC, Fisher Price is aware of 10 infant deaths since 2015 that have ties to the Rock 'N' Play model.  The incidents occurred when the infants rolled from their back to their stomach or side, while unrestrained.  All 10 infants were 3 months or older.

In a release on April 5, the CPSC is recommending that consumers stop the use of the Fisher Price Rock 'N' Play by the time their infant turns three months of age - or as soon as the infant exhibits signs that they can roll over.  The manufacturer already recommends that parents stop using the product by the age of 3 months, but they are aware that many still continue to place their older babies in the Rock 'N' Play.

It's worth noting that this isn't a recall notice - as they product is safe if used according to manufacturer instructions.  CPSC and Fisher-Price remind consumers to create a safe sleep environment for infants, whether using a crib, bassinet, play yard, or inclined sleeper:  Never add blankets, pillows, stuffed toys, or other items to the environment and always place infants to sleep on their backs.
