Deaf, 3-Legged Dog Adapts + Is Ready For A Loving Home In Minnesota
Every week we talk to Nicole at Animal Allies in Duluth, Minnesota, and feature a pet of the week. This week the featured pet is Farren, and 11-month-old puppy who has been quite the survivor.
They noticed pretty quickly that Farren was deaf when she came to the shelter. Nicole said it's not that uncommon to have a deaf dog, and they can go on to live fulfilling happy lives.
Dogs and their humans can communicate with hand signals to do basic tasks, and they'll be happy to show a potential owner what to do. They also provide resources for people who adopt a pet with special needs.

They also noticed a deformity on one of Farren's front legs that unfortunately led to an amputation. This can be devastating for some dogs, while other dogs adapt quickly. Nicole said Farren handled the amputation quite well and it hasn't seem to phase her.
She gets around pretty good and will hop up on a counter with one paw up. She also plays with toys, but can't really rough house with other dogs quite yet. We don't know how Farren will handle cats because she's never met one.
Farren is good with kids, she loves to greet people who come into the shelter and is just a wonderful, special needs puppy. At 11 months old, she's nearly out of the puppy stage which means she's the perfect age to find her forever home.
Farren's adoption fee is $425. The adoption fee goes to cover medical expenses for Farren and also future pets. You can find out more about Farren on the Animal Allies website, or meet her in person at Animal Allies at 4006 Airport Road, Duluth, Minnesota.
