Eating Healthy Is Ridiculously Expensive
This last week my wife and I started a weight loss program. Of course with any healthy eating nutritional plan, it requires a lot of fresh vegetables. Cucumbers, lettuce, cabbage, tomatoes, asparagus, chard, spinach, apples, strawberries, etc. are all on the menu. The first time I went through the checkout, I was rather shocked.
In the first week we have spent over $120 on produce for two people. We aren't eating gigantic amounts either. Now compare that with usually feeding our entire family for a week for about 150 bucks. The fact is frozen pizzas, processed meats, and other processed foods are so much more affordable.
It really is a shocking realization that this is partly why America is so obese. It makes sense that poorer states have higher obesity rates, doesn't it?
